The tea gardens of Rubaya and Kitabi are nearby the forest dwelling places of the magnificent mountain gorillas. Rwanda’s cool temperatures, plentiful rain and fertile volcanic soil help to make a consistent, smooth-tasting tea. Nyabihu’s tea plantings are at elevations of 7,500 feet.

RMT has been instrumental in improvements of methods for the independent farmers of Northwest Rwanda. Individual growers supply their tea to the factory, where it is sorted and the finest green leaves are selected. The cooperatives formed by local growers are shareholders in RMT.
