RMT Tea Factories

Rwanda Mountain Tea (RMT) Ltd is the leading private investor in Tea Estates, Tea blending and packaging in Rwanda.

RMT Ltd owns majority shares in five Tea Factories including Nyabihu, Rubaya, Rutsiro, Kitabi and Gatare. RMT has consistently invested in improving and expanding the tea plantations, revamping the tea factories, building the capacities of staff and diversifying the markets of made teas. Notably, tea plantations size under Industrial blocks (owned by RMT Ltd) and Outgorwers at all the five (5) tea estates has significantly grown totaling to 7,285 Ha.

Expansion in tea plantation sizes has consequently resulted in increase in Green Leaf production of over 34Million Kilograms annually for both Industrial block and Outgrowers.

Good quality yields are strictly and consistently observed through annual certification of both plantations and tea production. Such certifications include: ECOCERT, Rain Forest Alliance (RFA) and ISO.

Similarly, production of Made Teas among all tea factories continues to grow, averaging at over 8Million Kgs per annum. RMT Made Tea (CTC) is among the best quality teas in the world. Tea Brokers at Mombasa Auction find it more attractive, and thus fetches good prices. RMT Made teas have won recognitions and accolades at numerous tea conventions over the years.

Besides, the auction sales, RMT also sells directly to tea Blenders in Europe, Asia and North American markets.

Investment in the Tea Estates has positioned RMT as one of the leading employers in Rwanda, providing employment to over 13,000 Rwandans directly at the five tea estates as Pluckers, agronomists, factory managers, drivers, among other categories of staff.
